Collection Formation
The Franses Research Archive, established in 1987, is the field's largest academic library of images and documentation. It is a unique resource which is used by the gallery to identify and trace important pieces, and especially relevant to those wishing to form new or refine existing collections.

Research
FRANSES offers services for the research and cataloguing of historic textile art. Current projects include our collaboration with the National Trust, cataloguing the collection of tapestries in their two hundred properties throughout England, and a research project for Glasgow City Art Galleries, documenting the famous Burrell Collection of Medieval Tapestries.

Appraisals
FRANSES provides specialist appraisals for insurance, division, and probate.  Appraisals are underpinned by more than a century of public sales and market records collected worldwide.  Advice is also available on the sale or deaccessioning of individual objects or collections, whether through public auction or private sale.

Conservation
FRANSES has designed and equipped specialist conservation studios and offers consultation on treatment options for cleaning and preservation of textile art, as well as detailed condition reports.
